Thanks, I enjoy watching real documentary footage like that. Of course, we are sold mechanistic models for everything, even the ineffable, but that is understandable. These models are clearly useful tools for simplifying things, which is often necessary to gain some understanding and agency. But again, it is a case of the map being mistaken for the actual terrain. These simplifications become counter-productive when embraced by simplified minds. There is a clear analogy in the current political landscape, where unsophisticated paradigms trump case by case reason and evidence. Shortcuts often lead to dead ends and driving off of cliffs.

I guess they just need to build some nuclear power plants and more computers, then we will see the realization of this wonderful service. But more seriously I bet they will be using AI to pattern recognize behaviors but the more complete the Sim is the LESS useful after a certain point because
A) like the joke about the weather predicting computer that took 24 hours to give you a perfect forcast it’s too slow and expensive
B) the more the moving parts affect each other the more any tiny error or missing part of the model throws the whole calculation off.

Short digression. My term ‘simplified mind,’ can include high IQ people. The salient use is for all people who are constrained by ego, and by extension confirmation bias, due to ego, regardless of intelligence by other measures. This didn’t really help much in distinguishing it from other forms of life, in the context of the movie. We have organs, cells have organelles. They have ingestion and excretion systems, as do we multi-cellular creatures. We have some cells larger than multi-cellular organisms, etc. It occurred to me that maybe the existence of a single nucleus, containing reproductive DNA, could be the defining feature that distinguishes the biological cell. But that is not a definitive definition either. They categorize some multi-nucleated cells, as well non nucleated cells.

Spontaneous order requires that people have the same basic ideas about what that order should be. That does not exist today, build THAT and you will have a chance for spontaneous order.

Spontaneous order kinda depends on the world navies stopping pirates stealing the ship carrying the cedar wood or the brass for the pencil end.
The issue with the idea of spontaneous order is that trade depends on a forcible protection mechanism fbteh trade routes and enforcement (@by government violence “) of trade agreements and contracts.

A reality of course is we’ve no knowledge of life without some sort of governing body running things in the world. All the period piece movies are just made up nonsense as are most “history” books.
Demanding or influencing “order” in life by others is a form of slavery, trickery, we’ve been engineered into a perception prison of belief held in place by shackles of fear that we need that order. Tribal cultures worked in a conscious way to be guided by men and women who had the tribe’s best interest, not their bank accounts.
For me, entering the electronic dope world after 50+ years of no TV, Movies, etc. was the reality of just how contrived so much of life had become for humanity. Folks narrowed their discussions and interests to what was sold on the screens and then push the ideas as their own for some sort of ego grat.
To be able to sit alone for just 15-20 mins or so in quiet thought one is just beginning to knock on the door of being “awake,” let alone have gone through it.
And thus, for most “alternative” sites, any discussion of metaphysics, multi-dimensions, spirituality, inner powers, etc. is trivialized with cliche’s and anger absent the knowledge that some things are easy to make fun of but it doesn’t mean they aren’t important.
This programing has come from what Csanyi and Kampis of Hungary talk about in self organization of living systems as REPLICATION, occurring at all levels: Molecular, Biological, and Social. Every system has its own way it forms and expands and holds its self together. With humans, a replication of IDEAS is essential, first in forming, then maintaining social systems.
And of course who controls the “ideas” to embrace is the danger for us opposable thumb folks. The ancient male-dominator system burned, razed, and destroyed books, temples, holy sites, libraries, tribal ceremony and ritual for thousands of years in the name of “God” to purge all ideas, memories, and life understandings of the prior expressions from the collective mind of the people. Not much different now with the use of DARPA, pschological programing in music, news, “entertainment,” etc.

James, the article seems very familiar. When did you originally write/post it? It is more Utopian than Utilitarian, but it still contains great reminders and inspiring insights.
We are sold the idea that selfish chaos is the natural spontaneous order for human society. And therefore a harsh paternalistic hand is needed to enforce any viable and efficient civilization. The huge majority of humanity has bought this. They see our current coercive systems as the natural spontaneous order.
Are we more flexible than our blood-stained and mendacious histories would indicate? I know that I don’t know, and I’m not holding my breath… The answer will probably come along with the answer to whether we are children of inevitable original sin, or if we are basically good, and are waking up as well.
