Noted actor, activist and politician Russell Means joined The Corbett Report for an interview yesterday to talk about the creation of the world's newest nation, The Republic of Lakotah. "On December 17, a delegation from the Republic of Lakotah went to Washington, DC," he explains in the interview. "We presented to the State Department of the United States of America a portfolio of unilateral withdrawal from our treaties and agreements with the United States of America."
In effect, what this amounts to is a declaration that the Lakotah lands under the 1851 Laramie Treaty has seceded from the United States of America, creating a sovereign nation. The area comprises nearly 40 million hectares and includes parts of five states—North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Wyoming and Montana:

The Republic's appeal comes from the fact that it will charge no income taxes or property taxes. "We're not going to have that kind of a stupid idea," he said. "To put our property into the hands of government and our hard-earned income into the hands of government, that's an absurd idea that the moneylenders of the world have come up with."
Instead, the Republic will generate income from revenue-sharing ventures with investors who are eager to cash in on the area's wind energy potential. "You have to understand that in the contiguous 48 states of the United States of America, the finest wind power is in North and South Dakota, which is part of our country. There's enough wind in the Republic of Lakotah to power every city in the United States 24/7."
Other aspects of the newly-founded Republic include a provisional government of 10 facilitators who are working to establish diplomatic relations with other countries and found an international bank. The bank, according to Means, "is going to be a depository for gold and silver, because eventually if and when we do issue our own currency, our currency will be backed by gold and silver."
People of all races and creeds are free to immigrate to the Republic, provided they renounce their U.S. citizenship and are "self-sufficient."
