Yes, my dietician niece lost her job for refusing the vaccine. And I was simply ignored when I complained to the hospital about forced vaccinations for employment in Ontario Hospitals.

It’s so sad but most American’s will believe and trust their government and their experts. Remember we have been conditioned and taught since we were 5 years old and entered the public school system to always listen and believe authorities.
But some of us outlaws (not to be mistaken as criminals) refused to mindlessly obey if it did not make sense to us. Who would have thought we would end up the lucky ones!!
Ironically, I don’t think anything could have conditioned me better to question authorities than experience with them, i.e through the public (Canadian home-) school system, which really made me detest authorities and never want to listen to or believe them.
It probably helps my reading level was always way ahead. I liked reading history, science, and countless other subjects on my own. So time and time again, I noticed obvious lies, simplifications, and misrepresentations in school narratives, e.g of history. Often, they were egregiously wrong even with matters uncontroversial, such as that the Norse were depicted as plunderers when even Vikings (a profession, not a people) were primarily traders and explorers.
Luckily, they were barely devoted any time; most was spent utterly wasted teaching fictional Canadian histories. Did anyone here know Canada won WWII?!
When they mess up and deceive on even basic facts, I certainly didn’t expect they would get anything more complex right. And when a state is willing to lie and present entirely fictional versions of historical events, to lie and misrepresent even hard science I often knew to be outdated or wrong by the time I had read it in the school textbook (from studying science in my own time), how can one expect them to ever tell the truth of today whether on the scamdemic or anything else?
I remember thinking as a teenager, if I am a 16-year-old girl and can see through all this, the adults must be *really* stupid. Do they even read science? And just as one has to learn various languages of hermetic jargons to understand various sciences, do these people not learn ancient ones to look at primary sources? Do they really just take the word of “authorities” on it all, even when the Internet lets them bypass near every gatekeeper and teach themselves more than “authorities” ever could?
In retrospect, I believe my own reading and curiosity functioned like a counter-conditioning; public school probably helped me notice all the lies by immediate contrast.
If the true history of the scamdemic is to be known to the future, people must learn to think of history in its own terms and not only through what authorities tell them… we must change approach; not just hope the “authorities” happen to be correct. What I always ask myself is things like what people thought at the time, what were the context of all this, what did power want? For the Covid scamdemic, the context of increased authoritarianism; wealth transfer upward; and longterm expressed desires for biosecurity state should illuminate.

Indeed, they are facing some opposition here where they are rezoning 1000 acres of productive farm land to Industrial zoning which would be bad enough, but this is for the largest Data Center in the State. This Data Center will be run by AI. It does not provide new jobs other than during it’s construction. The Data it collects will be used to train AI robots to replace humans. It will likely use a million gallons of fresh water per day for cooling and more electricity than a thousand homes. I switched to Linux many years ago on all my computer systems. But suddenly, Ubuntu wants all of my private information to update itself without constant intervention. Their request is so invasive that I can’t comply. And I bought a license for this operating system outright years ago. Things are a changin’ and not for the better…
A few important points:

I spent HOURS on the phone trying to get a human to put me on a snail mail list, to no avail. One idiot there said he did it, that I’d get snail mail information. But the very next day I received an email thanking me for requesting online access!
I’ll tell you one thing that is for certain… THEY truly know how to wear a human being down, how to frustrate them and throw them off center (which is not a great mental state).
Is this particular to Ubuntu’s paid membership version? I’m similarly unfortunate enough to still be using Ubuntu, but I’ve not seen any requests for private information from Canonical, and have never given them any that I’m aware of.
There are not many non-rolling release distros good for the power user and programmer (i.e me) that also are good for running servers, and that I could recommend to someone else or my parents without fuss.

Alternatives, like FreeBSD, are a long way from being as all-purpose usable as Linux now is. Switching from a distro like Ubuntu to another often amounts to switching to a fork, similar to how the only two web browsers are Firefox and Chrome with others being forks of forks of forks of them. Most recommendations amount to fashion choices of non-knowledgeable hobbyists, who do not use their computers to get things done.
Has anyone here tried Void Linux? It’s what I’ve considered switching to, being focused on stability still with newer software, and supposedly also good for server use. But I don’t know if it has problems no one talks about, too.

Out of curiosity, after learning previously when I looked into it that the humble goldfish’s attention span now exceeds the human average (or apparent average; I suspect it’s higher in “developing” countries), I attempted to read into the gnat’s attention span, as I often find myself remarking people’s attention spans to now be worse than goldfish and I wondered if I could upgrade (downgrade?) this quip to a gnat.
But the discovery it has one appears to be new after reading Grover, D., Chen, JY., Xie, J. et al (2022), although this did not stop them in Bruno van Swinderen, Björn Brembs (2010) from giving fruit flies Ritalin to see if it improved their attention spans (it did); “human patients” will be pleased to learn gnats are “not unlike human patients afflicted with autism and ADHD.”
Not sure what to make of these useful discoveries. Apparently the science proves you right, and based on the increase in ADHD and autism — which I suspect based on research I can’t be bothered to go find to cite at the moment are largely not either of these (what happened to the former being largely genetic?!) but rather screen/technology-induced brain damage — we are becoming more like gnats, because they are themselves “not unlike human patients” afflicted with poor attention spans!

I enjoyed this post of yours, emma.m, and that old cyberpunk blog article you linked to was spot on. I made the big mistake of buying a System76 computer about 5 years ago on a recommendation; and I had them factory install Ubuntu on it.
Their computers suck, in my experience, because they do not accept clean installs of anything but their kludged OSs. I even had to send the damn thing back for a firmware update because their built in updater works like crap.
Anyways, back when I received the computer, I tried installing clean versions of Kubuntu, Ubuntu Studio, and Ubuntu directly to get rid of the proprietary bullshit from System76. (I wanted to create a Linux-based recording studio for my Roland drums, to no avail whatsoever!) Only god knows what the hell they did to get the OS to work. I used to be a Windows system engineer but don’t have the patience anymore to deal with technological difficulties, especially with bloated, buggy crap!
Long story too long, Ubuntu 24.04.3 LTS on the system and it will not work as a Pro version without all of my personally identifiable info.
PS: I will DEFINITELY pass on the Ritalin (or any pharmaceutical intervention)!

I am using Ubuntu Mate right now but it’s gone downhill since I used it last- acc to Lunduke they have been rewriting the core utilities with Rust and it’s jank as hell. The SNAP stuff is also not to my liking so I’m going back to LMDE which is still great.
I made the mistake of switching from LMDE a for a change of pace.
Since Ubuntu is a fork of Debian and honestly straight Debian works just fine why don’t you try that? I hear Void is OK but I never tried it myself.
Recently, I have only had bad luck with Realtek and Nvidia.
The recent LMDE Faye release broke several things on my system, likely thanks to newer Nvidia drivers. LMDE previously worked fine, but Faye made it less than ideal.
Another chronic issue is with Realtek NIC drivers. This chipset I have seems to hold a grudge against newer kernels. I ordered an intel extension card, that should fix the problem permanently.
One big issue with these slow distros is that these type of problems will be very slow to resolve. If they are indeed going to be resolved.

Yes, that was about the time that the lights went on for me. I saw two buildings smoulder for a while then drop in their own footprints as if….as if they were destroyed via controlled demolition. Most people have seen footage of buildings brought down with controlled demolition…..Las Vegas would make great theatre whenever a rotton old casino would be brough down in such a way. And it DOES make great theatre. It just doesn’t make a great deal of sense when used as a surrogate for a terrorist attack.
