What is the New Atlantis? And who is Francis Bacon? And what does this obscure, posthumously published fragment of utopian (?) narrative have to say about technocracy? Good questions! Today, James explores those questions and more in this deep dive on Francis Bacon’s The New Atlantis with Heys Reviews host, Nick Heys.

NEXT MONTH: Foucault’s Pendulum by Umberto Eco

James, watching your interview about the book “Francis Bacon’s New Atlantis” which I have not yet read, reminded me of an interesting man who has dived into Francis Bacon deeply. His name is Alan W. Green https://theshakespearefoundation.org/#about. Green interviewed with Robert Edward Grant some time ago and I was astonished at the details he presented about Bacon’s work. If at all possible, I recommend you interview Alan W. Green. May you check him out soon.
Hello, Nick here. Thanks for the tip I will look into this interview!
Thank you for taking up this fascinating and IMPORTANT topic.
Please add to your reading list: Paul Emberson’s, FROM GONDHISHAPUR TO SILICON VALLEY, VOLUME 1. An excellent spiritual scientific explanation is given for the phenomenon, Sir Francis Bacon.
It is beyond eye-opening, yet, not everyone will be able to take it in.
Is it only in French?
Matthew Ehretโs essay argues that the โInvisible College,โ first formed in 1646 and later institutionalized as the Royal Society, was inspired by Francis Baconโs New Atlantis vision of a secretive, technocratic priesthood of science, where knowledge was compartmentalized and tightly controlled. He traces its evolution through groups like the Hellfire Club, the Cambridge Apostles, and Thomas Huxleyโs X-Club, which promoted Darwinian orthodoxy while retaining occult ties. In the 20th century, the concept reappeared in the Tavistock Instituteโs psychological warfare programs and in UFO networks led by J. Allen Hynek and Jacques Vallรฉe, who linked their efforts to Rosicrucian traditions. Ehret concludes that the lineage persists today in Silicon Valleyโs transhumanist circles, particularly through John Brockmanโs Edge Foundation, which explicitly likens itself to the Invisible College, perpetuating an elite โpriesthood of scienceโ that blends esotericism, social engineering, and technocratic ambition.
The Neo-Platonic Invisible College: Rosicrucians, Theosophists and Tavistock to the Rise of Silicon Valley’s Transhumanist Priests

The โInvisible Collegeโ was the informal name given to a secret society that was established in 1646 amidst the English Civil War by Astronomer/Alchemist Christopher Wren, Mathematician/Mystic Robert Boyle and other followers of Sir Francis Bacon, John Dee, Robert Fludd and Venetian occultist Francesco Zorzi.
This grouping of mystics aspired to control the reigns of all branches of science and politics and soon founded the British Royal Society in 1660…

Thatโs quite a continuity! Fascinating
I was on the live, and Corbett clipped the first part where we were complaining that it ended.
I mean, we like you, and want to hang out with you.
Thatโs why I woke up to make the 8 am Eastern Time schedule.
We talk amongst ourselves, here, anyway. But at least in the comment section on the website, we can have exchanges between ourselves to accommodate our own schedules.
If you just want to make a podcast, do that, itโs great.
I’m surprised I hadn’t read this when I was in my twenties. I was big into this sort of thing.
When it comes to the Rosicrucians and as well, the Freemasons, there’s an incredible tome about Middle Eastern mysticism called ‘The Sufis,’ written by Idries Shah. This is standard fare for people who are into the mysticism of the cultures around the world.
Shah, an Afghan born in London, who was a polished intellectual that routinely questioned the ‘scholarly’ world, often enraging these academics.
His claim is that both Rosicrucianism and Freemasonry are sourced in Sufism. In fact he has entire sections of his book dedicated to Secret Societies in the West. He wrote quite a bit about these groups.
You’d be surprised how many Christian mystics were heavily influenced by the Sufis including St. Francis of Assisi and St. Augustine. His breakdown of the Square and Compass symbol, as well as the ‘G’ on the symbol comes completely from out of left field, claiming their source is, once again, Sufism.
It’s remarkable and highly recommended to those who like to read about mysticism.
Btw, judging from the points you brought up, this ought to interest those into the ‘Tartaria’ conspiracy theory. It’s an outlandish one but also fascinating.
Tartary is a real place name that is no longer used- kinda like almost ni one says Asia Minor anymore.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tartary
While not an expert I would rather suspect that Rosicutions are just an extra spicy flavor of Hermetic Magicians. That filth is apparently related to the Kabbalah and is as far as I know a kinda of Jewish black magic from the Middle Ages.
Free masons probably are just a mutated off shoot if that- they โmightโ have picked up weird neo platonist ideas (like the druse iirc) from the Middle East in crusader times but most of that stuff is kinda Jew adjacent I think.
If u like that kinda thing you could check the shwep podcast page (secret history of western esotericism podcast) which appears reasonably serious.
Here is a link to SHWEP โฆ.. the appear serious and to know what their on about for the most part
https://shwep.net/themes/mysticism/
I very vaguely recall reading that the Aryan Brotherhood gang used the Bacon cypher to send each other secret messages in prison.
Iirc the book was โthe devil and Sherlock Holmesโ a collection of weird but interesting essays.
Nick Heys & James Corbett converse (53:26 mark)
“He talks about growing plants, submersibles, growing plants without seeds, and making animals more fertile or less fertile, bigger or smaller, right?…
…Grafting and inoculating as well, wild trees as fruit trees, which produce many effects, and we make by art in the same orchards, gardens, trees and flowers to come earlier or later than their seasons and to come up and bear more speedily than by their natural course, by art greater much than their nature and their fruits sweeter, of differing taste, et cetera, et cetera.”

I contend that early civilizations knew how to shape/manipulate agricultural aspects just by exposure, personal observations and experimentation. After all, growing plants and raising animals was ubiquitous.
For example: Sticking a tree twig into the ground can produce a full size tree. It is easily observable, especially with willows, but I have two large Mulberry trees at my old place started from dried, winter twigs from another tree that I just stuck in a pot of soil.
EXCERPTS
…Between 350 and 287 BCE, Theophrastus, a philosopher often referred to as the father of botany, wrote ten volumes collectively called Enquiry into Plants. In volume two, Tree and Plant Propagation, he wrote โthe twig uses the stock as a cutting uses the earthโ…
…Book of Romans: โif some of the branches were broken off and you, a wild olive shoot, were grafted in their place to share the rich root of the olive tree…”
…In England, one of the earliest accounts of grafting comes from Leonard Mascall in 1575, in the rather fabulously titled โA booke of the arte and maner how to plant and graffe all sortes of trees, how to set stones, and sowe pepins, to make wylde trees to graffe on, as also remedies and medicines….
https://cider-review.com/2022/04/02/the-magic-of-grafting/
People have been changing animal and plant characteristics for thousands of years.
Dogs and horses and livestock were bred. Look at all the types of dog breeds. Certain plant seeds were selectively harvested or mixed with others of the same species to produce a newer type of plant.
Thank you James. Fascinating subject.
Years ago I watched a Chris Pinto documentary (a series of 3 or 4) – ‘Secret Mysteries of America’s Beginningsโ. It had heaps of information on the subject of the New Atlantis. I have the DVDs but it is also available on YouTube: ‘Secret Mysteries of America’s Beginnings Volume 1: The New Atlantis | Full Movieโ.
I remember Chris delving in the background of Sir Francis Bacon. His conclusion was that Bacon himself did not write the works of Shakespeare. Rather, he put together a team of elite writers. The individual William Shakespeare did not exist. There was a much greater purpose behind inventing Shakespeare, but I will need to watch the film again, because, as you know, trying to follow esoteric traditions is like trying to paddle in mud.
I highly suggest checking out the online video.
A very interesting conversation, thank you. Regarding the Shakespeare / Bacon conundrum, Peter Dawkins who runs the F B Trust posits that F B was the director and editor for a group of male and female writers who collaborated with him on writing the plays.
See this episode of the Alfa Vedic podcast, from about 1 hour 10 minute mark with Peter Dawkins, “Episode 289: Dr. Lando DC w/ Peter Dawkins-The Land Is The Holy Grail”
From the same source it is purported that the King James version of the bible was also a Baconian project with him employing many poets and scholars to produce this version of the ‘good book’. Sounds quite reasonable to me.
WOW – Great show!! Thanks – gonna be munching on this one for a long time
While following the links in the show notes, came across this ditty that might be germane to the topic at handโฆ not sure how which branch of the rabbit hole led me there:

Real Patriots Don’t Think Like Hitler – Part 1
The Protocols of the Elders of Zion Hoax
Matthew Ehret Jan 09, 2025
A few months ago, Gordon and I dedicated an episode of Breaking History to the topic of โReal Patriots Donโt Think Like Hitlerโ.
Some people may have been confused by our choice of title, since it should be common sense that no true patriot of any nation today would embrace Nazism.
After all, arenโt there enough Nazis managing the Trans-Atlantic banking system, reviving eugenics, driving proxy wars in Ukraine, and lording over the technocracy that is the European Union?
Some might wonder, โHow could any patriot support Nazism when the majority of Nazis including leading SS members, were sent to South America after WW2 and instead of being punished, simply received new jobs working for Allan Dulles, MI6 and NATO as part of Operation Gladio?โ
Didnโt those leading SS operatives such as Prince Bernhardt create the Bilderberg Group that managed the takeover of nation states since 1955?
Unfortunately, due to HEAVY doses of propaganda, historic revisionism and also incredibly evil behavior from Israelโs own Likudnik elite obsessed with a Greater Israel program involving ethnic cleansing of much of the Middle East, many good people have come to believe that the cause of all the worldโs problems are, once againโฆ the Jews.

Real Patriots Donโt Think Like Hitler โ Part 3
It is strange that many conservative patriots and alt-media influencers have come to believe that Adolf Hitler was a courageous Christian nationalist who should be admired for his resistance to secret societies and Jewish bankers.
As I will outline within part 3 of โReal Patriots Donโt Think Like Hitlerโ (click here for part 1 and here for part 2), the fact was that the Fuhrer and broader SS leadership were pagan occultists who despised Christianity, going so far as to re-write the Bible in 1939, while purging Christianity from holidays, baptisms and marriage ceremonies.
Sure, Hitler often said words in public speeches and Mein Kampf which conveyed a pro-Christian worldview, but when one reviews his actions, private correspondences, re-writing of the Bible, transformation of the church into a tool for national control, and deeper affinity for German paganism, we can be certain that his version of Christianity smelled like Sulphur.

How Western Bankers Created the Nazis
Matthew Ehret Jan 16, 2025
Iโll stop beating around the bush now and just say it: Adolph Hitler or Benito Mussolini were never โtheir own menโ.
The machines they led were never fully under their sovereign control and the financing they used as fuel in their effort to dominate the world did not come from the Banks of Italy or Germany. The they used in petrochemicals, rubber, and computing didnโt come from Germany or Italy, and the governing scientific ideology of eugenics that drove so many of the horrors of Germanyโs racial purification practices never originated in the minds of German thinkers or from German institutions.
Were it not for a powerful network of financiers and industrialists of the 1920s-1940s with names such as Rockefeller, Warburg, Montague Norman, Osborn, Morgan, Harriman or Dulles, then it can safely be said that fascism would never have been possible as a โsolutionโ to the economic woes of the post-WWI order.
To prove this point, let us take the strange case of Prescott Bush as a useful entry point…

Francis Bacon was the Chuck Norris of his time. You know you are in trouble when the Bacon English gets to sizzling.
Thanks for posting this (I screwed up the time). If anyone is interested in Alan Watt’s work or Freemasonry, I highly, highly recommend Cutting Through the Matrix – CTTM – on Substack.
By the way Christopher Marlowe mentions Bacon as one of the occult authors that Faust is reading in Dr Faustus.
