Only viable solution is radical decentralization of our access to essential materials to live, regenerating the local hydrological cycle, using fire as the indigenous people did to burn out underbrush, enrich soil (while mitigating the extreme burning capacity of forest fires) and plan a food forest that is resilient to fire via back engineering the old growth configuration from places like Vancouver Island or the last few ancient White Pine forest here in Ontario. Those forests have fire sweep through but the elder trees remain intact, provide food, medicine and their seeds are awakened by fire.

As a technical aside, some of the screenshots are loading very slowly because of the relatively large filesize and the usually relatively slow archive.org. PNGs can get quite large. I would suggest using JPEG (60-80 quality depending on the content, with screenshots you can go quite low with no perceptible difference) or webp. You are absolutely right, but I think believing them to be aliens does a great disservice to aliens everywhere. There is nothing that Musk has ever done in his career that has not been tied to the US government. Nothing. The fact that Musk, Theil (Palantir), Ellison (Oracle) etc., are now further creating the surveillance state, and yet are being viewed as ‘good guys’, is a bit bizarre.

All I can say is that for six months beginning March 2024 my new car
purchase turned into a veritable nightmare.
It took that long to rid my car of all the espionage it was doing on me.
A couple of months after buying my car I had taken it to my dealer for
the ‘complimentary checkup’.
I asked them to put on hold the regular checkup items and tend to the list of 8+ items
I gave to them.
When the checkup was finished not a single item on my list was taken care of. 🙁
They told me they couldn’t make any of the changes I had requested.
And so for the next four months I had no choice but to research the guts of my car and systematically deactivate as many spying devices as I could.
When I started I didn’t know what an OBD2 port was from a hole in the wall.
After six months I managed to take care of all the items on the list that my dealer said couldn’t be done.
Not long ago I was in the market for a new car, in doing my due diligence, I test drove every car that tickled my fancy. One thing I noticed, the more expensive a car got, the less of a driving experience I got. I was looking at sporty cars, yet even here, they were selling ease of driving, not the thrill of driving.
The car I initially thought I was going to end up with was a white Lexus IS350, very nice looking car, sounded good, but noticed right away, how everything was electric, nothing was mechanical, like driving using my PC. The kicker was when the salesman who was in the back seat, said that at the end of each trip, your car will tell you how well I drove. I shot back, for a car that costs this much, I will be grading its performance, not mine.
So, I purchased a lightly used vehicle, saved some money and got something with a manual trans. I swear, the powers-that- shouldn’t-be work their brains very hard, coming up with ways to insure we don’t use our brains at all.
The point is, the whole driving experience is moving us ever so slowly to being totally driverless, disconnected, another area where we can turn off our brains and let a machine do it for us…no thanks.

I miss the days of the hand-powered roll down windows, couch long car seats, and independently owned drive-in movie theatres.

My anecdote on another spying method.
–The Insurance Industry – As an aside, there is someting very nefarious with the giant, powerful insurance industry. They have had record corporate profits and seem to be shaping/controlling the direction on people’s lifestyles. Remember also, that people’s insurance premiums are invested, which means huge money flows are directed into certain sectors.

Yup new cars certainly are not cheap.
I also had a 2007 vehicle that lasted me 17 years before I finally ‘upgraded’ last year. Downgrade would be a much better way of describing the move.
What kind of resources have you been using along the way? I will likely need to get a newer vehicle (unless they are banned completely in near future) that is bound to be packed with all manner of nonsense.

Texas Sues Allstate For Secretly Tracking Drivers Through Apps, Using Data To Raise Rates

The state of Texas has sued Allstate and a subsidiary, Arity, accusing the insurance giant of illegally tracking drivers through cell phone apps without their consent and then using the data to charge more for car insurance.
According to Texas AG Ken Paxton, Allstate created the “world’s largest driving behavior database,” which collected information on more than 45 million Americans after paying mobile app developers millions of dollars to secretly incorporate tracking software. The software was designed beginning in 2015 by Allstate’s data analytics unit, Arity, and integrated into several apps such as Fuel Rewards, GasBuddy, Life360 and Allstate-owned Routely.
In a Monday complaint filed in a Texas state court near Houston, Texas says Allstate also profited by selling the data to other insurers.
According to a press release from Paxton, These actions violated the Texas Data Privacy and Security Act (“TDPSA”), which created heightened protections for Texans’ sensitive data, including but not limited to precise geolocation information. The law requires clear notice and informed consent regarding how a company will use Texans’ sensitive data. Allstate never provided notice or obtained Texans’ consent to collect or sell their sensitive data. This is the first enforcement action ever filed by a State Attorney General to enforce a comprehensive data privacy law.
In addition, Texas has accused Allstate of purchasing data about vehicles’ whereabouts directly from automakers in order to more accurately determine – not based on cellphone locations – when policyholders are actually driving.
Participating manufacturers allegedly include; Toyota, Lexus, Mazda, and Stellantis’ Chrysler, Dodge, Fiat, Jeep, Maserati and Ram.
The lawsuit seeks restitution and other damages for consumers, along with civil fines of up to $10,000 per violation, and the destruction of illegally collected data.
Paxton filed a similar lawsuit in August accusing General Motors of installing tracking technology on over 14 million vehicles since 2015 to collect driver data, which the company sold to insurers and other companies without drivers’ consent.

Sadly I’m not surprised by the deceit carried out by Allstate.
This is just the tip of the iceberg of what’s going on.
Somehow manufacturers seem to believe they can sell you a product and still maintain ownership/control of it at the same time.

When a person visits Zillow, Redfin, Trulia, and Realtor.com (owned by the Wall Street Journal’s owner)…these places are data harvesters.
Insurance companies survive by data harvesting.
Home and car insurance, and health insurance are huge expenses for the average family.
People are just commodities to be milked dry.
How come the news that a state doing something like this makes me cautious? They have been doing this since 2015, maybe the state just wants their cut of the cake.
Suspension of democracy requires suspension of disbelief. I believe they are doing stuff like this just to sense the pulse of the nation and get a better estimate of their cruising speed.
