This was one of those weeks.
Yes, if you’ve been keeping track of the unfolding geopolitical drama over the past week, you’ll already know what I’m talking about. And if you haven’t been keeping track of that drama, strap in and get ready, because you’re about to get a data dump on the latest news about the world of warfare.
From the 5th-generation war on everyone to the series of escalating regional wars that are threatening to merge into a full-scale, global WWIII, the latest news has something for everyone!

All I can say is this post by James is very frightening. Nuclear war, whether regional or worldwide, could lead to human extinction. How could that outcome be avoided this time. as it has luckily done in the past?
Atomic war even in a large scale is unlikely to end humanity- it could certainly kill tens of millions but TBH a full on war with people throwing ICBMs against each others cities is a LOW probability.
You should be more concerned about someone tripping a continent wide power outage (you can’t just turn the grid back on if it goes out….or would be weeks at least)
or someone turning off the water supply by hacking the computers controlling it. It’s a lot easier and low cost to kill millions via attacks on the infrastructure then actually blowing stuff up
You can take some steps to mitigate these issues if you act now- having water filters, stored water, living away from a big city and having some supplies to hand.
I don’t live in a big city.
Nevertheless, even if large scale use of ICBMs is improbable, widespread use of tactical weapons, uranium bullets, “bunker-busting” missles targeted at hidden nuclear reactors and/or nucleaar weapons caches, and possibly other war strategies neither you nor I are aware of, could fill the sky and groundwater with so much radioactive material (some of short half-lives, but others lasting for decades, that the human population is pushed below the replacement level, and dies away completely over time.
i’m not saying this is inevitable, only that its likelihood is impossible to put an upper bound on, especially in the current economic environment that rewards those industries that profit most from the development and production of the most expensive weapons, and that rewards the government and military bureaucrats whose status and self-esteem are rewarded in proportion to the size and rate of growth of the budgets that they manage.
It’s certainly possible but very very unlikely that even a full scale Cold War sized atomic exchange (which would be hard to put on these days) would wipe out all humans, or even damage the earth seriously- the radiation would certainly kill lots of people from cancer and such…,.but after the initial short lived fall out went away the vast majority of the world would be LESS dangerous and LESS contaminated then the area around Chernobyl. There are even crazy people living THERE.
Human extinction is not likely from any nuke show we would put on today, as horrible as it would be. It’s not likely and (more useful as a point) it’s not something you can control anyway….you CAN control what weird chemicals you eat and what media you let your family consume and that’s way more likely to save your line.
The human race is probably going to get culled down over the next few decades because of low birth rates, but even that is not a total disaster since the people that breed will be the ones who can resist the toxic environment caused by things like mass media and instant communications….honestly if your kids are half way sensible the future for them is quite possibly bright with plenty of room and a demand for high value workers

But now, I’m worried that the U.S. might invade Canada and take Alberta’s oil and the country’s beer industry. We already called dibs on Lake Ontario…er..uh Lake America.

The good news is… Most of us Americans are weenies when it comes to cold weather. So, after we invade, we won’t stay too long.

cold winter in Europe will be bad, but they do have the advantage of not living in giant ply and cardboard boxes like many of us in the states do….decently constructed housing makes them a bit more able to deal with an energy crunch IMO then the Air Conditioner zone n summer…..
There are different types of crude oil. The oil in the US is different from what the refineries are using to produce diesel and jet-fuel. This oil needs to be imported, while the US exports the oil to refineries in other countries. Probably setup that way to maximize profits via international trade bonuses.
The refineries need to be changed quickly, or there will be no diesel.
But to maximize profits that change will not happen. They will not let a crisis go to waste.
The refineries will wait until they get billions of dollars from the government.
The transport of gas via ships is very expensive. And needs a lot of ships which are not available.
All this means that the transport will soon fail, due to diesel and jet-fuel shortage. By design.
And Europe will be without gas for a while. Less by design and more due to insanity.

That is a ? you should have inquired about or looked at prepper sites or listened to my music to wake up to the truth of what is going on in the world at the start of the Ukraine war or years before.
The folks that I know who have made preparations include meeting others and talking with them about their ideas as well as part of their “preparedness.”
IMO the key at this point for you Freek is to stay calm, socialize with local folks you may find in a penny saver paper, hit up a few prepper sites for lists and ideas, get strapped ‘cuz when the trucks stop and Walmart is empty folks are going to be doing bad stuff in the cities and eventually moving out to the country.
That’s where bullets and friends will be worth more then gold.
