From Flatland to Reality: Escaping the Political Pendulum

by | Feb 24, 2025 | Newsletter | 34 comments

As we saw in Back and to the Right: The Pendulum Swings Again, the political pendulum has shifted once again in recent years. Now, right-wing parties and populist movements are sweeping to power across the globe, toppling the entrenched left-wing establishment and its ESG-supporting, DEI-promoting, AGW-fearing, 2SLGBTQ+-rainbow-flag-waving orthodoxy.

But now that the pendulum is clearly swinging toward the right, what are these “populist politicians” and “anti-establishment radicals” actually accomplishing? Are we seeing a real revolution, or just more of the same?

Well, let’s take a look at how the populist slogans compare to reality, shall we?

Globalism is out! . . . But suddenly the self-same people who were protesting the encroaching North American Union 20 years ago are now its most fervent cheerleaders, and the old globalist dream of an EU army is finally becoming a reality.

Technocracy is kaput! . . . But suddenly the people who were decrying AI, technocracy and the Big Tech censors are the loudest supporters of Peter Thiel, Larry Ellison, Palmer Luckey, Elon Musk and the rest of the gaggle of PayPal Mafia / Thielverse / government contractors / NSA enthusiasts and next-gen AI-weapons system manufacturers.

War is over! . . . Unless you’re talking about trade wars and threats against erstwhile allies. Or unless you’re talking about the never-ending Zionist war of aggression in the Middle East, in which case every single one of the “populist” politicians who have been swept to power is an arch supporter of that war.

Inflation is a thing of the past! . . . Unless you mean price inflation. Cuz prices are still rising—and egg prices in particular are setting all-time records.

The Great Reset is DOA, and so is Davos’ pathetic attempt at “Rebuilding Trust in Government“! . . . But President Musk is performing a great reset and DOGE is rebuilding trust in government!

So, what’s happening here? Why is it that the DEI window dressing is being taken down but the agenda is marching on as usual?

Is the pendulum an illusion? Is there something bigger going on here that we’re not aware of?

Why, yes. Yes, there is something bigger going on here. And I’m going to explain it to you. Are you ready?

    • It does swing from authoritarian to libertarian… the main drivers of the swing are
      A) economics
      B) safety

Sure, SOME people loved Weimar, where you could do whatever ick you wanted to but lots more people DONT want to be watching decent people forced into prostitution or to suicide by a wrecked economy.

In post Soviet Russia people were happy to be free…. Until their country went to pieces and the life expectancy dropped thru the floor.

The issue with liberty is that you can’t uave it unless you are sensible and moral (morality in this sense being distilled wisdom if seeing what bad behavior causes) and you can’t have it Except in a HIGH TRUST society where people have enough in common that they know what the score is….. the west is loooong past that.

Libertarian ideals don’t attract most people except insofar as granting them license to act as they wish. Like Emperor Tiberius said in that movie “Caligula” he was once a general who led men but in his old age became a swineherd.

Unless we lived in a safe and culturally homogeneous society Libertarian and Anarchic ideas will always be fringe…. I wish things were not so but they are. The elites have used modernity to dissolve the bonds that made such ideas even partially viable

      • Authoritarianism will not guarantee safety though and in fact it can backfire on people who want to usher it in.

You have opined or your writings have implied that man has a corrupt nature. If this is true the authoritarian also has this nature and is subject to the same ego trappings as anyone else, i.e. the desire for power over others.

Authoritarianism seems to inevitably lead corrupt application of force regardless of if it comes from the left or right. A central authority seems to grow like a malignant cancer.

        • I agree that Authoritarianism also leads to abuses.

I was saying that people will naturally default to wanting it when they are hit with the results of too much freedom- I think it’s the other side of what Hyack said in Road To Serfdom that too much Central Planning leads to problems that make people want a dictator to sort things out.

I think that the issue is that Freedom to do whatever you like leads many people (when their corrupt nature is not reined in by either Training or Force) to do things that lead to chaos…. Then they swing back(or up,lol) to wanting a Force to restrain people or fix the results.

An example is the sexual revolution- on the one hand few people want to get married before they can have sex and then be stuck in that marriage but on the other hand people are now not real happy with the (spreading to whites now) fatherless Thug Life culture and massive depression and mental illness rates that de stigmatizing divorce led us to. Hear people yowl if you suggest the end of No Fault divorce.

Too much liberty leads to the breakdown that leads to authoritarianism.

It is probably a cycle that will go on from now to doomsday- but being as rich as we are now has let the decay get To a scale bigger then normal and IMO will have a bigger then normal swing back. Normal people are often at levels of degenerate behaviors that the richest aristocrats couldn’t get away with in the old days.

The issue with being AGAINST authoritarianism and delegitimization of any authority is that MAYBE 10% of people are able to handle it…. In the old days poverty would punish people for making bad choices but most people are not really up for letting single moms and drunks starve. Without the natural consequences nudging people into good sense the majority end up NEEDING help to survive. Thus immorality Breeds big Government (hence its promotion) as much as Central planning (“road to serfdom “) does.

I don’t think there is a fix for this cycle TBH, because “people “ , lol. There is no perfect mean that we can stay at forever IMO

Most Americans are now quite controlled to be consumers of material goods, pop culture trivialities, internal combustion recreation, electronic communication, celebrity and sports worship.

They read very little and are unable to discuss issues beyond the boundaries cleverly implanted with a cognitive dissonance result.

Unable to extricate themselves from this morass they plod along from consumer holiday to holiday, TV season to season. For most Americans under 50 the majority of their life knowledge, vocabulary, social skills, ideas about being human, whether or not you chose to believe it, have been formed from the controller’s propaganda arm..entertainment/media industry. This is Egregore an occult concept representing a “thought form” or “collective group mind”

WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE (song)

      • @larmex8
        Thanks.

At 83yo next month, I have read hundreds of books on a wide spectrum of interest. Lately, Graham Hancock’s America Before. Since I am a professional writer I am usually working on my own stuff but doing lots of research. This web thing is pretty cool. Spent countless hours in university and public libraries doing research in the “old days.” 🙂

A lot of youtube videos…Cultivate Elevate; Randal Carlson; for GREAT laughs, JayLenoFly’s Craig Ferguson reruns; Fab Rats; and Jared Boosters for fascinating old photo collections.

I have a LOT of interest in the Mud Flood and Mandela Effect. That nagging question…”How did a world wide culture from Japan to Australia to the US, produce so many very similar magnificent buildings with no internal combustion engine vehicles to move massive marble stone, etc.; no electrical tools; no organized shipping companies that delivered product from Italy, etc.?” This is a very mind moving video (a bit too god preachy at times) about just one of the great buildings in the US: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MmUWYlnRuck

Since I didn’t watch TV or go to movies for 50 years in 2016 I was given free cable and wifi and went pretty wacky or binge watching everything, (not commercial TV except for football) but it wore off VERY quick.

        What do you read/watch?

        • Dabbled with Graham Hancock and watch Craig Ferguson clips frequently. Maybe there was a race that sprawled the globe centuries ago.

Of late I’ve been watching videos about WW11/Holocaust/ hitler. Reacquainting with Shakespeare and started a book about climate change/magnetic reversals/cyclical ice ages

          • IMO, JaylenoFly has the best quality clips for Craig. Since I didn’t watch TV for 50 years when I “discovered” him a few years ago it was a gold mine of really clever humor and nice legs 🙂

            This is from my research:
No Jewish Holocaust happened as has been mythed…no ovens, no soap, no sex slaves, no lamp shades, no mass graves, no death from the pest fumigant Zyclon B, no “Grand Plan,” etc.
All attempts by unbiased researchers seeking the truth has been thwarted by the Zionists. Deep ground penetrating radar has shown no burials, bones, etc. around the sites.

During WWII the International Red Cross had monthly unrestricted access to every German prison camp and contact with inside men who reported to them in detail the activities at the camps.

In an 11/22/44 letter to U.S. State Department officials, the Red Cross said: “We had not been able to discover any trace of installations for exterminating civilian prisoners. This corroborates a report which we had already received from other sources …”

Dr. Charles Larson headed a team of forensic pathologists sent into the camps at the war’s end to document war crimes. They conducted hundreds of autopsies at more than 20 camps and did not find a single body showing signs of gas poisoning. None have been found since, at any camp.

I used to love quoting Hamlet’s speech to the players: “Speak the speech I pray you…” A good conversation starter 🙂

Looks like you are in the same ball park on your vid watching as I have been. It is pretty fascinating to learn about the stuff they don’t put in any curriculum’s hey?

(And just a note: Israeli’s aren’t “Jewish,” only the Hebrews are, they are Ashkanazi/Kasarian/Zionists and have no connection to the Biblical Jews. They just insinuated themselves into it so they could practice usury when the other religions said no to money lending)
Check out the Balfour Declaration, issued on November 2, 1917 as to how they acquired their land from the Pals.

            • If only more of us have been unwired to the television for 50 years….

And those are the clips I am referring too lol

Hamlet is a favorite, speaking of speech, “My words fly up my thoughts remain below, words without thoughts never to heaven go”

The holocaust narrative, the 6 million, the near genocide…is a mathematical impossibility and poltical absurdity. I think the Balfour document begins to give the plot away as the zionists were to get their land but that required immigration (coerced by (ironically) zionist funded governments and political cover for the steal (sympathy via the holocaust). “Hitlerism enables us to convert jews to zionism” – Nahum Sokolov (president of the world zionist organization, quote is from 1933

I believe hitler was a willing, or unwitting agent of the zionist movement. The zionists utilized him to destroy the German people and all of europe while establishing their own soverign country

My understanding is zyclon b was used for lice, their were no gas chambers, crematoriums for those who died in the labor camps, said crematoriums could not dispose of so many bodies, much of the “evidence” and resulting “statistics” are based on (bolshevik/zionist) soviet union “discoveries” contradicted by findings by are own government as you included

As per the curriculum, in the words of Pink Floyd, “Teacher Leave them Kids Alone”

              • @larmex8
Tell you this my friend. This has been a great conversation. The way it used to be years ago here in CorbetteVille.

You have an excellent grasp of the games being played on humanity.

For me, and hence my interest recently of the Mud Flood, etc., is each layer of ‘awakening’ I explore I realize that sooo much of our “history” is contrived, manipulated stories to limit us and not advance us.

Yes on Zyclon B. Americans were using it on the banana shipments to kill spiders, etc.

And…There were 2.4 million Jews in all of German-occupied Europe. After the war, 3.8 million Jews claimed “survivor” benefits from the German government. The World Almanac: 800,000 more Jews were alive in 1950 than in 1940.

The challenge for us of course is just what in the hell can we do with all the truths we harvest??

Chats like this are invitations to others to advance. These days I use my music and essays. As a young dude I examined many paths of reality and ways to be that it gave me a foundation layered with tools to fall back on over time.

What I miss the most is the comradery of like minded others, doing simple stuff like sitting around talking like we are, or playing music, gardening together. Painting our VW’s with spray cans 🙂 Life was truly so much more sane and calmer before the digital handcuffs were put on people.

      • To give you an example of the bureaucratic madness we are in.

I saw that Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna was given the assignment to look into the Covid nonsense by Trump. Since I had done months of research on it and years ago put out a free downloadable pdf and video at my site on the who, what, where, etc. of it all. I sent her a link.
        LINE IN THE SAND (essay)
        https://old.bitchute.com/video/EFwefBX5SLvW/

I just received an email (with poor sentence structure) from some assistant toadie that basically said: “You are not a FLA resident, goodbye.”

Welcome to the “Golden Age” hey?

  2. I got your point, James but how is there Left or Right Libertarianism? I rather consider it another dimension. I do believe there is no leftish-collectivistic-total State or rightish-little State anarchy.

But tremendous food for thought. I am going to translate it and send it around.

    • See Murray Rothbard’s contribution to the philosophies of “libertarianism” and adjacent ideas/discourses.

There are a “libertarians” who could be categorized as “right wing” . Some libertarians oppose the civil rights movement, feminism, and other social movements such as these. Are these “right wingers”?

Maybe. I mean if we look at the integration of schools in the US. It was done by force and was anti-freedom of association. Should people be forced to integrate?

Another possible “right wing” idea is “meritocracy.” I think more “lefty” types still believe in ideas of “sameness” in abilities. Perhaps it’s just marketing to audience? I don’t know.

What I’m confident to say is that people are not all the same. We won’t all be equal in ability or outcome. IMO human beings should have the right to their own destiny and self determination of peoples. If some want to exist in tribes as they have done for centuries, let them do it.

The problem is having a code of honor and the ability to enforce the rules of engagement between opposing groups of people.

I think “right” and “left” are more about social issues, cultural issues, and can be somewhat separate from degrees of authoritarianism.

  3. Can’t wait for Corbett’s new book. I’ll be sitting on the allotment with a book and a cat on my lap (the one that likes to sleep on my newly potted plants… and it’s not even my cat btw). It’s a shame those tyrants can’t leave us alone. I’d apologise to future generations if I could but they won’t hear me and they’ll never be allowed to know how badly we’ve let them down.

  4. Once again, I’m somewhat dismayed at the quality of the links that Corbett uses to reinforce his essay. Stamer indicating his opinion on an EU army does not presuppose its reality. Newsweek’s indicating that prices have not dropped (within a few weeks of Trump’s presidency) does not prove that they won’t. The Western creation of ISIS under Obama does not prove that a current administration continues to support those efforts. Is anyone really surprised that the ‘left’ and ‘right’ can be authoritarian or libertarian? Seriously?

  5. This article makes sense to me. It’s potential value is mostly in in its ability to reach the normies. I am struggling to be more effective in that area.
The psychological and reflexive dimensions are stymieing us. Conversely, the technocrats and the rich seem like masters of those dimensions.

Oh, pendulums again! (pendula). I actually embrace that as a great analogy to societal movements. The farther you push it one way, the farther, and more forcefully, it will go the opposite. My fascination with this extends to building physical pendula that produce hypnotic patterns, when the principles are understood and applied. Here are some of my creations.

Make them dance, seem to go in unison, for a while, return to apparent chaos…
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fmLvJP2w0yQ&t=2s

By employing two axes, an infinite variety of patterns can be made.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4E6GnN1BPyM
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E6wPpKkhK7o

  6. Escaping the Political Pendulum..
Left, right, up, down, diagonally, pie-charted, whatever.

People believe what they want to believe..
That’s just the way it is.
Of course you can say: what they are “made” to believe (“news”), but it’s still their choice, just as we decided we dig deeper.

I try to avoid political conversations. If it tends to go that way, I only talk about the grabbing of 70% of our gross euro. Everybody hates taxes, so that’s a very important common ground😜

History has been here before, many many times.
Romans left their houses when taxes rose to an absurd level. They just walked away. History appears not to be lineair (action-reaction), but cyclic. Like booms and busts. In…time frames! Cycles!

Brilliant and very inspiring interview about cycles, money flows, currency flows, history of course. Napoleon’s defeat due to weather conditions(!). The cyclical rise and fall of empires.
And where we are now, of course. A must watch imo

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LAoQyya0HzE

  7. Fantastic breakdown of the cheer for the ‘savior of the week’ syndrome so many fall for.

So many people are “choosing teams” (in the 2 dimensional political psyop spectrum) and then going out of their way to find people they think are on the other team and attacking, trolling or otherwise harassing them. I makes me feel sorry for them, they get all riled up like some guy at a football game so emotionally invested in a silly superficial display that he would get aggressive with someone cheering for the other team.

Then there are people like me that do not cheer for any teams, and it seems like both of the team cheering sides hate me even more than each other! haha

They are so programmed to try and put you in this dualistic box or “good team” or “bad team” that when you tell them you do not believe in the false dichotomy of the teams presented, their brains short circuit and they freak out.

It like the “are you anti-science or do you trust the science!?” type dichotomy presented by the vaccine propagandists, I tell people, I am in neither of those groups, I am in the “trust my intuition and be suspicious of corporations known for felony fraud” group!

By the way, I love the recommended reading section James 🙂
