Here’s a story of learned helplessness.
Two decades ago, I liked to play World of Warcraft. You would have battles that you could participate in between factions that were at different scales (I can’t remember if the largest was 25 v 25 or 40 v 40). Through these battles you would build up currency called honor.
There were so many times I would hear that we should let the other faction win because we get some honor anyway and it wasn’t even trying. We would all just pretty much ignore them, but they were annoying nonetheless.
I don’t know if I’ve mentioned this here on the site before, but I’ve noticed a general malaise amongst people. I find it from people I’ve tried to hire for work (they just disappear or whatever) to small kids I’ve tried to teach.
I had this one kid I was tutoring at a center a few years ago, and the assignment was to think up something to draw. I asked, “Why don’t you draw a castle?” She said, “I don’t know what a castle is,” and just sat there. A few years prior, a kid would’ve more excitedly ask what a castle is. Actually, they would’ve known what a castle is. But this kid just didn’t care, and it was like that for more than one kid in different ages.
There is, I think, a subconscious understanding that the system has been designed to fail & harm you. It’s to the point where so many things just don’t feel the same anymore. School, college, gaming, YT, & life in general is just not as exciting as it used to be because people know where we’re headed.
I’ve also seen someone disappear from his job only to show up several days later (even though he had a phone & could have contacted) supposedly after being stuck at a friends house during a snowstorm. He doesn’t have any addictions as far as I know.
People don’t have much hope for the future right now, & that’s probably being projected onto kids by parents.
screw the worms, we need a jackalope for’nuther hopelessly helpless misleader.

TRUTH APPEARS AS LIE
“When a well-packaged web of lies has been sold gradually to the masses over generations, the truth will seem utterly preposterous and its speaker, a raving lunatic.”

READING NEWSPAPERS

For most under 50 their “beliefs” have been formed from the entertainment industry. Leftist dialog becomes life “truths” to create “sameness” of thought.

“Playing the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on July 4 for America’s 250th is a rare kind of moment,”
said The Smashing Pumpkins drummer, Jimmy Chamberlin.
“We’ve always believed in the power of music to be a unifying principle. It brings people together and allows them to express themselves in a forum that has a common destination- and it allows all of us the opportunity to participate in a celebration that has meaning, history, and impact.”
Very happy to learn that someone (URSA AG) is producing simple, non-electronic, repairable tractors. Ever since hearing about how John Deer is failing to endear itself to farmers I’ve been thinking “Why doesn’t someone fill this gap?” And now it looks like someone is! And I hope they put in a motor that runs on gasoline (petrol), OR diesel, kerosene, alcohol, LPG, cooking oil, or whatever!
Keep up the good work, guys! Near as I can tell, my malaise is no worse during the summer. I’m your geezer-fanboy all year round!
Re: Story #1
International contagious good-will, friendliness and fun with the FIFA World Cup
The FIFA World Cup events are socially therapeutic, big time.
Forget the scores and the winners – I’ve been following the teams/fans interacting at different locales.
This is great to see! …the heart of mankind enjoying fellowship.
The FIFA World Cup brings the world together.
Someone should make a video compilation highlighting wholesome FIFA clips of good will.
It could be contagious and facilitates that mindset.
Thursday June 25, Japan vs Sweden (1-1) in Dallas. Everyone had fun…the joy contagious.

What exactly is “the news”? There’s a big difference between reports of events around the world and the propaganda that gushes out of the alphabet lamestream media channels. So when I first saw the headline about news avoidance, I thought it sounded like a great thing – people finally starting to turn off the propaganda and fearmongering that spews out of their radios and TVs. Maybe they’ve had enough of being told what to be scared of, what to think, which war zones they should be paying attention to, and which side is the most righteous.
Speaking personally, I was almost addicted to the BBC news for years after I had “woken up” to its establishment bias. But about 10 years ago I found I could listen to it no more. Its coverage of the war in Syria was too sickening, and the way it caricatured and stereotyped people who had used their democratic right to vote “yes” to Brexit was too much.
I choose different news sources for world events these days. I do find it too depressing at times. So I usually watch or listen to the serious or “grim” stuff during the day, usually at lunchtime, and keep evenings for lightweight/enterntaining stuff (or go out and meet people).
The reason people appear in times of crisis on CR and vanish when things calm down is because actually needing to care about the news is un-natural and weird.
Historically most people didnt need to worry much about what was happening a hundred miles away, let alone on a different continent. Like the unabomber said , peoples lives now depend on people they know nothing about keeping systems they don’t understand….it’s nothing like the way people are designed to live which people are getting progressively more crazy.
Personally I have started paying less attention to stuff and can’t control and more to stuff I can
@Duck
>>Personally I have started paying less attention to stuff and can’t control and more to stuff I can>>
That is the Stoic approach I have offered here talking about far too many players, acronyms, and pop culture/movie values, quotes and the such used in everyday ‘communication’ and life validation.
Was a time that I lived in where the various geographical areas of the realm were actually unique and different with accents, food, clothing styles, etc. Now the “Egregore” or collective group mind that people are subjected to through the Internet where cancellation is feared seeking to be “liked” by strangers 1000’s of miles away, far outside one’s tribe is the yardstick to live by. Where people look alike, sound alike, talk alike, and think alike.
And Duck, how could what you are saying not be ‘personal?’ 🙂
WHO ARE YOU (song)

Yeah, very true- I kinda hate that everywhere is looking like everywhere else too. Back when I was younger the food and products in different countries were different…..America has that whole geography of no where thing going on these days where whatever state your in you drive into towns with the same twenty or so brand stores…..I was trying to get foreign radio stations over the internet and found most of them playing the same American trash music all over the world.
As to “personally” ? 🙂 well, if I just said “it’s best to do” you’d have been mad at me for putting people into boxes wouldn’t you? 😉
But in all seriousness people do seem to drive themselves crazy worrying about stuff that they can’t actually affect much while ignoring stuff they can change. All the best n hope its going well for you
@Duck

One part of the agenda is to get same talk, same think embedded, much harder to control critical thinkers then followers. Just as Rockefeller said after taking over the ‘educational’ system in 1903 or so: “I want workers not thinkers.”
As to “personally” ? 🙂 well, if I just said “it’s best to do” you’d have been mad at me for putting people into boxes wouldn’t you? 😉
You missed my point. When a person prefaces their statement with a combination of “ Personally, I…” it is like speaking in the first person…”Duck thinks….” the more appropriate way is either:
“Personally there is a lot to…” or “I think that…” Just one of those things that irritates word smiths like myself, screenplays, books, 100’s of songs, etc.
>>But in all seriousness people do seem to drive themselves crazy worrying about stuff that they can’t actually affect much while ignoring stuff they can change.>>
Again, IMO, this is the consequence of all the intentional manipulation of our natural evolutionary process or growth to create people who are more emotionally and intellectually invested in gossip and popularity (being liked) who (by studies) would rather be wealthy then smart.
>>All the best n hope its going well for you>>
Thanks. I have accomplished to some a ‘miracle’ without allopathic toxic ‘medicine’ healing myself of COPD.

Looks like you had that 4:20 break already.
Have you knowledge of the herb Mullein ?

Odd thing to reply after all the effort I put into yours???
Being 84 and with a back ground that I have I tend to have a more basic expectation of what I see as conversations out here in blog world. You know, commenting on what was ‘said’ to you, back and forth. Admittingly you do offer far more nourishment of the mind then the others who post 1000’s of words each episode.

Indeed, part of last years healing package along with Zinc, lot of C, D, Selenium, the B’s, and other good stuff.
One of my many experiences with no TV, Movies, Etc. for 50 years was to manage a health food store in Danville, CA so it gave me a nice foundation for self healing.

That’s GBWs comment, not mine. I don’t know what their talking about, some health herb I think?
Glad your lungs came back clear.

‘Beer and popcorn’, or ‘whiskey and pistachios’. I’ve been reduced to it. However, since he’s addressed that thing that makes me so mad (because it makes me feel powerless), contacting your congress critter, its helped me feel better about my dread of it, and try to focus my energy on something effective. I’ve been trying to figure out how to fight the data centers being built in my area. https://www.reuters.com/business/energy/ceraweek-nextera-secures-land-texas-giant-gas-plant-power-data-centers-ceo-says-2026-03-23/ I’m still working on it but my brain finally dredged up a contact. I’m making progress. I’m no longer hand-wringing. I’m moving forward. I’m not a victim. God told us to run this world. Some have been pretty successful in their endeavors, but I don’t agree with their approach, so I’m exerting my authority to block some of their efforts. I’m just one human, inspired by this ‘podcaster’ to try to make a difference.
Regarding the Data Center build-out, I found this article encouraging…
EXCERPTS
…reinforced by recent articles from Bloomberg and others, and reveals a sobering reality for 2026:
nearly half of the nation’s planned 16-gigawatt capacity faces cancellation or delay, with only 5 gigawatts currently under construction…
