“Ive got ancestors from england,,”

lately my mother claimed that we were directly related to two signatories of the declaration of independence, and I said yeah but if we allow 25 years for a generation, 250 years ago would indicate the likely ancestry of being descended from 2048 people. what about the other 2046 people?? if we take this line of thought back to the 1400’s renaissance, each one of us that claims euro ancestry is related to half of those estimated to have been alive in Europe back then.
a wisoned elder corrected that to “mitochondria is all that matters. Its the god gene, and only is passed by the mother. traits are inherited from both parents, but the coding that defines who we are is in the mothers mitochondria”.
