I have books that I’ve written. Some things I’ve written about were inspired by books, films, and music I’ve experienced before.
What’s the difference between me reading, listening to, and watching all this stuff and learning from and being inspired by it all and some Accelerated Incompetency model doing the same?
Or am I missing something?

Your a human and get inspired- where as AI scraping is feed ing data in into a glorified auto correct….AI Is not inspired because it does not ‘know’ anything.
As a tech its actually not that good and probably wont amount to much of real value (in the next 50 years anyway) but it does allow people to put real human artists and writers (even the dullest of which can potentially make something of value) out of work. Its the digital equivalent of hiring half skilled Indians to run your customer service- bad for workers and bad for the customer.
Its also pretty dangerous tech that you should, if able, not support because its unpredictable and randomly does ‘insane’ stuff.

Everything has its place. Personally, when there are no stakes, I don’t care. Using accelerated incompetency to make art doesn’t stop people from creating their own. It’s when it gets used for other things that I take issue.

True, but it does stop them from making money at it which limits how much they can prioritize their art.
I would also argue that there are consequences for training AI because it will be used to make your life worse in some or other way (be that flooding your feed with generic AI content or getting rubbish automatic help lines)
Making money from your art is a nice thing, but is it actually a necessity? How many people have made art for free throughout history? How many of the legends of the gods of various old religions were done without someone paying a cost up front? Do people not support artists AFTER they create something; is it only before?
If there was a person who hated you, and their child came to learn from you, what would you do? Would you deny them based on who their parent is, or would you use the opportunity to present them with a different perspective?
On one hand, you have many people who are so convinced that humans are such masters of all we survey that we can simply do whatever we want, even to our own bodies (although those people will often test on someone else’s body to make sure). On the other hand, what is the mind of each person if not the operating system of a biological machine? The wisdom lies in knowing where the line is between those perspectives.
And, as far as having my feed filled up with junk, that’s already happening, and it is done by people filling up their pages with junk to manipulate whatever is left of any unbiased coding. That’s why I try to keep my own library of knowledge and do things like get to know my neighbors.

While I am lucky enough to be independently poor and not very artsy I imagine that an artist who wants to focus the bulk of their time and effort on art still needs to eat and have a place to live and stuff like that.

Poisoning the Survey App Narrative
Depending upon my time and the temperature at which my blood boils, I have taken to pushing back against the NORMALIZED data collection narrative.
Their narrative is the crazy one, not mine.
I aim to change the “NORMALIZED data collection narrative”, even if that change occurs with only a few people.
One example: I’m in the grocery store. I spot a free-floating independent contractor who is trying to get customers to sign onto the grocery store’s discount App. I bait him. I wait for him to pounce as I casually wheel my cart by and smile. Sure enough, he pitches me. In a civil, friendly manner I spend a couple minutes explaining to him why I won’t put the App on my phone.
“But you’re missing out on all these discounts,” he says.
“It’s a bribe for my data,” I quip.
[On that note: Just this week, my phone service sent me a letter saying that they had been hacked and my data was harvested. Fortunately, I only use my phone for calls or receiving texts.]
Different companies, some local, with which I have done business have asked me to fill out their Survey App.
I won’t do it. If time allows, I will scribble them a quick email.

My local True Value hardware / Agway farm supply store used to email me after every purchase to compete a survey for a $5 coupon. After a couple of times of stupidly completing the survey I got creeped out. I wondered what type of data they could be harvesting, so I stopped.
Similarly creepy story: to receive a 10% auto insurance discount in NY one can take a safe driver course online every three years. This year I had planned to take it, but every company that offered it required some sort of digital way to identify the person on the computer, such as keyboarding profiling. Fortunately I learned there is an 8-hour live class being offered locally by AARP.

AI is already pretty good at voice (look at the AI voiced songs or the speeches of historic foreigners done in their voice in English) and auto transcription of audio is getting very good too.

If you must use a phone and are not going to go thru the bother of flashing an open source OS to it your slightly better off with an Iphone. Much as I hate apple products it is atleast easier to just shut off cellular access to individual apps when you dont want them accessing the internet.
Honestly IMO the biggest data privacy issue with phones are the apps people put on them- and why the hell so many apps want to access your contacts list is rather obvious.

I enjoy listening to writers’ short stories once settled for the night. Somerset Maugham was a prolific writer and these audios on YouTube have to be read by AI as AI makes infuriating mistakes reading row as in an argument with row as in row the boat. The only upside is that the “voice” is so bland that it puts me to sleep.

On the Pete Quinoes show podcast he reads books aloud with commentary pretty often. Non fiction stuff- history and politics mostly and stuff you wontfind generally available.

Car insurance rates are out the wazoo. In many states like Texas, car insurance is mandatory.
I live on a pauper’s budget. I try hard to keep from spending money and will often repair my old appliances and whatever else falls apart. Plenty of glue and duct tape is on hand.
In June, I called my car insurance company to see how else I could trim my rates. I have a 2007 SUV.

Ed Zitron of the “Better offline” podcast has some very strong feelings about the AI bubble being part of the rot economy.
As he points out its not a GENERAL intelligence, and is not actually very useful- its mostly a bubble of hype. Chris Knowles (of Secret Sun blog) once said that the rich folks appear to be getting desperate because their super science god life in the Matrix is appearing more and more to be marketing hype and BS.
The fact that you can ‘write’ code with AI is not that impressive in that the other AI (An Indian) can also slot together lego blocks of code while not understanding what those blocks do and we then end up with bloated, slow software that randomly dies for unexpectable reasons.
On the other hand AI can allegedly do things like tell Race from X rays a and use facial physiognomy to detect pedophiles so folks should be super careful about ANY personal data online.

It is a reminded of 2020, a total war on the population by communists inside the government, media, and outside, in the form of ANTIFA. I always wonder where Trump was during all this, he was the great impetus for much of the state of division in America, yet he was about as tyrannical as a Mother Teresa (though I am sure his tyranny will be more apparent in regards to enforcing “anti-semitism” laws.
