What Happened in Tiananmen Square? – Questions For Corbett

by | Oct 28, 2025 | Questions For Corbett, Videos | 47 comments

Did the US Marine Corps pull a dirty trick on Smedley Butler? Why did the Rockefellers donate so much land and money to the national parks service? And what really happened at Tiananmen Sqaure, anyway? This week on Questions For Corbett, James does a good ol’-fashioned questions round-up and fields a number of queries on a number of topics.

SHOW NOTES:

Meet Smedley Butler

\”Recognition\” – Word of the Week – “A soldier will fight long and hard for a bit of colored ribbon.”

Napoleon Bonaparte Quotes – ” Give me enough medals and I’ll win you any war.”

Mémoires sur le Consulat. 1799 a 1804. Par un ancien Conseiller d’état – “You call these baubles, well, it is with baubles that men are led… Do you think that you would be able to make men fight by reasoning? Never. That is good only for the scholar in his study. The soldier needs glory, distinctions, rewards.”

  1. Yes, we need show notes.

  2. Yes, keep the shownotes James, it adds credibility to your work. It’s not your responsibility to educate people on how to use them, people will use them or not, that’s their choice and their business, you don’t owe them a research in case they’re too lazy to find something.

  3. Surely Chesty Morgan deserves a medal for her use of “deadly weapons” (1974)

  4. Indeed James, war IS a racket and we have one of the biggest racketeers in history as our president. He is bombing unidentified boats 1000 miles from our shores and using the made up label of “narco terrorists” to justify this murder spree. Plus he is attempting yet another regime change in a country.

    • It’s been going on for 300 years at least, it’s the American way. I agree it’s deplorable but don’t let TDS fool you into thinking it’s just Trump, it’s possibly just that you haven’t been paying attention until now. 🙂

      • Bad assumption friend.
I have been an authentic political activist for 60 years. No TDS, just facts.
With no TV or movies for 50 years I had no idea who he was and was fooled at first with his impeccable acting/lying skills but after 30 days it was quite obvious he is tool of Zionist Israel and in line with Chabad madness.

Guess you could have listened to my song and poked around at my site some or you would have understood just how far beyond pop culture addictions I am.

        Thanks

        • Thanks for the reply, sorry I misunderstood your intent, so much of people’s complaints about government are simply ‘orange man bad’ as if he was an anomaly and not merely the latest in a long descending line of dangerous politicians. I guess it’s the fate of whoever is elected at the time to suffer the ire (or praise)of the masses for enacting their part of the script. Will check out your website. All the best. 🙂

          • As a then Young Democrat I met what may be considered within reason the last great president, JFK, while he was campaigning in Northern California. The day of his murder my “political” interest died and I “knew” inside something was very wrong with our reality.

Been a student of social politics and resistance ever since. Reading scores of books, attending public and private meetings on everything from metaphysics to hidden cultures and history. That’s why I went 50+ years with no TV, Movies, etc.

You are not paranoid if you know someone is really trying to control your life with nefarious agendas.
Stay safe and pay attention, not consequences.

  5. A quick search:

    Milton James

Tiananmen Square Massacre – Facts, Fiction and Propaganda

“As far as can be determined from the available evidence, NO ONE DIED that night in Tiananmen Square.”

CBS NEWS: “We saw no bodies, injured people, ambulances or medical personnel — in short, nothing to even suggest, let alone prove, that a “massacre” had occurred in [Tiananmen Square]” — thus wrote CBS News reporter Richard Roth.
    – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –
BBC NEWS: “I was one of the foreign journalists who witnessed the events that night. There was no massacre on Tiananmen Square” — BBC reporter, James Miles, wrote in 2009.
    – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –
REUTERS: Graham Earnshaw was in the Tiananmen Square on the night of June 3. He didn’t leave the square until the morning of June 4th. He wrote in his memoir that the military came, negotiated with the students and made everyone (including himself) leave peacefully; and that nobody died in the square.

But did people die in China? Yes, about 200-300 people died in clashes in various parts of Beijing, around June 4 — and about half of those who died were soldiers and cops.
    – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –
My biggest take when that happened was the bravery of that “shopping bag” guy standing up to a tank.
This lie was meant to put heroism and resistance down the rabbit hole.

  6. James, in regards to your show notes: there is such a thing as comparing notes.

  7. James, please continue to put the show notes in the description. I, for one, find them invaluable and yes, often they lead me to dig deeper. Thank you for your attention to this matter – hahahahahahahahaha I couldn’t resist

  8. In any one of your videos, how about have Brock put a reminder of some sort on the screen, like “Do a search on such and such”. Or, maybe tell people what the topic of your next “Solutions Watch” video will be, and ask them to do some research on the subject prior to your release of that video. It would be the same as asking viewers to read a certain book before you talk about it. Otherwise, keep the show notes. You know, when they put out a deep fake James Corbett, shoddy show notes just might be “The Tell”.

  9. Reasons for show notes

    1) As search engines get worse it’s an archive of the sources that may not be findable in the future

(much of the time even the dead links can be seen via “The Wayback Machine” at archive.org)

    2) They show you have an actual reason for saying/thinking what you do.

    3) They are often interesting in their own right, and may introduce readers ti new websites or ideas.

    4) They are an easy way to shut up nay sayers who say your just making stuff up

People who can’t look something up on their own are people who can’t look something up on their own….you can’t be training them to he likethat with one website. They are trained ti be like that by school and the ither media they have consumed- the show notes are possibly a new thing that might CHANGE their approach by introducing the idea of “further reading” and “sources”

I can’t actually think of any reasons AGAINST show notes unless you just don’t want to bother messing with them.

  10. Well !?! We must be at the mercy of Bacon English. OUR TRUE quintessential threat to existential existence. *
    Pistol Pete Hegseth says”
*And that’s not to disparage our warfighters … That’s to recognize that this name change is not just about renaming, it’s about restoring.. ( what Pete ?) .[ 3rd Reich losers to 4th Reich wieners ? ] ; words matter,” he continued. .. We , the American are at DEFENCE. And mind you , we can stay on De Fence longer than anybody. War is an old and retired ” word”. Those goofballs in Washington D.C. are stirring up the clear waters so we, American, can’t be sure of our footing in the river of time. Check it out… Look in the fine print it’s still looking for legitimacy cause it was just dreamed up and no one in the legislature has made it a Bacon factory.

Trump Renames DOD to Department of War > U.S. Department of War > Defense Department News https://share.google/sMAL91Ygjbnh21BSe

You know from the past if the fence fails you replace it with a Wall. You technically are on a wall but it’s a more stable place to ” ride the fence” unfortunately if you should fall , putting you back together will be impossible.

  11. Keep the show notes.

More people are willing to click a link than they are to independently search for specifics on mentioned topics. Removing the notes just means less people will be doing further/deeper research.

If the goal was to train the audience to be journalists, then I get the argument for removing them. But IMO spreading more info to more people should take precedence over training a fraction of those people to be better independent researchers.

  12. On the Q4C from Richard, and Corbett’s pat answer., which was no answer at all. Japan and it’s impenetrable culture. Change is slow but when you look at this YouTube it reminds me of economics , centralized or decentralized culture busting and Dr. Harold Hill. What could be closer to the military vest than 76 trombones in the big parade.

Well, without looking it up, Tachibana Prefecture SHS I guess has been turned .

    • Turned or not this band has more going for it than anything from the past.
Formed in 1961. Now it has world wide recognition. I’d say this is such a joy for those involved; it’s culture blooming and even the worst cynic can say is it’s not traditional.
      More history.
      https://share.google/images/wif4Nd1RHqsCtOwF6

Keep the show notes, Jimmy, they are a reliable roadmap to discovery.

  13. I like the show notes. I was particularly interested in seeing ” Life under Digital ID: A Global Analysis with Solutions”, and the show notes made it easy for me.

  14. James, I have a better word than Voluntaryist.

I used to call myself a libertarian—then Bill Clinton did, and that ruined it.
Next, I called myself an anarchist—until I met the manarchist: someone who chants “no rulers” but can’t define anarchy.

Now I call myself an abolitionist—because I want to end slavery in all its modern forms.

It’s a word that starts conversations—some smart, some confused—and every one of them is a chance to talk about Lysander Spooner.

    Abolitionist > Voluntaryist

    • I think that’s a very good and very astute term to describe what’s really going on here, there, and everywhere. Mind if I use it?

    • I like it! I’m going with abolitionist too. Thanks Kak!

    • @Kakistocracy

Thanks for the comment. I will have to give that serious consideration.

I did an interview with a guy named Cory Edmund Endrulat recently and he has a lot of material on Abolitionism.

Have you watched/read any of his material?

Here is a playlist from his youtube channel on that subject specifically:

      https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLpgpMJ3yOnbJvWxB0-i4os7DpDOSQbMsI

In your opinion, does slavery only apply to human beings? or can one also be an abolitionist for the slavery of non-human beings? (no I am not a vegan trying to ‘free all the cows’, I just think it is a discussion worth having).

      • @G

Thanks for the playlist. I’m looking forward to checking it out.

In my view, slavery isn’t limited to human beings. In many ways, we’ve enslaved the environment—treating nature as something to exploit rather than to steward.

However, if we can’t liberate ourselves from our own chains, how can we help others—be they of different cultures, environments, or species?

  15. re: To link or not to link the show notes.

In my mind that would depend on what your objective is. Is it your intention to spread information? Then, Yes.

If it is to provide training in becoming autonomous (an interesting paradox).
    Then, No

If both, then Yes, since fulfilling the first option would be aided and improved by having readily available links to things that you have already ferreted out. Plus it has the benefit of an individual being able to share or cite something of specific interest. …Grandpa is interested in bitcoin -Corbettteer X says “oh here’s this interesting piece about that…”

To me, I think that at this stage of the game, it’s all about numbers. Honestly someone can be dumb as a stick, but if they get that they are being worked, and do what they can to subvert or circumvent or confront this system – I’ll take it.

  16. It doesn’t matter how many sources you link… you’ll still get called a conspiracy theorist.

    • minnie
Glad you are paying attention to this parade of consonants and vowels. A new name for volunteer conspiracy theorizing would be nice too. Can you smell the Bacon?

    • Minnie
      “…. you’ll still get called a conspiracy theorist….”

No.13 you can’t wake up someone who is pretending to be asleep

      https://corbettreport.com/15things/

Why waste time in people like that? Do you think they will be useful if you convince them? Do you want to fit in wiyh stupid people?

If people don’t want to know thats in them when horrible stuff happens to them…..maybe that is the real reason we see so much ‘revelation of the method’ type reveals?

  17. Differentiating between “voluntaryism” and “volunteering/ism” is something that should be addressed.
I’ve met many people who think because a certain group of people might align with themselves in ideals and beliefs that they’re expected to just give up their labor for free.
So they get sold this line that if they show up they are expected to work for free, in exchange for a cot and some rice and beans. Be happy and not complain.
And these people who are running the compound say “well, they agreed to it.”
Yeah, that’s actually exploiting a misunderstanding of “voluntaryist.”

    • Iamfree

What kind of compound was this if you don’t mind my asking?

Sounds more like a cult then a misspelling, 🙂

      • Duck,
        Yes, I’m a terrible speller.

I don’t like to give them free publicity, but it was in Mexico.
There were a number of earnest anarchists doing backbreaking, physically demanding work in extreme heat and humidity *for free* (they weren’t even doing it room & board) they still had to pay for simple things like a cup of coffee, because they were under the impression that “volunteering” was expected of them, as part of the anarchist world view. (I was confused by the blurred lines between capitalism, socialism and communism, and their willingness to just submit to working for free with very little comfort or accommodations. Just this assumption that volunteering was part of expectations from this group of people. Like it was the ideal.)

I agree. It was / is very cult/like.

        • lol, that sounds like a good deal for the people running the place. Honestly if people are up for doing free work (and then paying for the perks like coffee) it kinda DOES fit the definition of “voluntary”….they choose to be free labor and all that, lolol….kinda mean to do that to folks though.

The spelling thing kinda eludes me too, 🙂 but I was referring to the various spellings of voluntaryism (think I did ot wrong again ) Mr Corbett was referring to.

          • There’s this movie called “Pleasure” (I think it came out in 2020) it’s about a young girl from Sweden who explores her sexuality in the Los Angeles porn industry. It’s tastefully shot without a lot of gratuitous nudity. But, this is an excellent film on the subject of consent and exploitation. It goes into depth on expectations and the stories people tell to themselves, and the stories those who exploit tell, that they want others to believe.
I think the same issues apply to the Anarchists, because there are opportunists among them, who lack scruples.

  18. I have 2 suggestions with regard to show notes:

    (1) Yes, keep the show notes. It’s one of the things that keeps me coming back, and passing your content to others.

    (2) If you’re concerned that show notes might be damaging people’s ability to do their own research, perhaps you can counteract that by including a new link at the beginning of each show notes list, a linked named “What to do if a show notes link below is broken or [appears to be] missing”. I believe you’ve already done 1 or 2 videos about how to do Internet research that you could use for this, but a new one, customized for this purpose, might be worth creating.

  19. I appreciate your including links in the show notes. However, in the interest of educating newcomers, you could, I suppose offer proposed searches instead of links, causing them to slowly gain more independence.

    E.g., instead of…
    https://www.nps.gov/people/john-d-rockefeller-jr.htm

    …maybe…
    https://presearch.com/search?q=rockefeller%20national%20parks

Either way is fine with me. Been doing web searches since the days of gopher servers and webcrawler.com and finding whatever I needed. Not everyone is an Internet fossil like us, though, Jim. Some folks need some hand-holding at first; eh?

    Keep up the fantastic work!

  20. Show notes are important for being credible. That’s your biggest distinction from your contemporaries, don’t stop.

  21. Thanks James, for all your work. Just wanted to let you know that I popped over to see those him, him, her, her, her & him links and the last one appears to be dead. As does the helicopter crash link a bit further down the page.
    Stay awesome!

  22. Regarding the handing out of ribbons to tax payer funded murderers:

Pete Hegseth, recently announced that the U.S. soldiers who slaughtered Lakota families including women, children, elderly and babies at Wounded Knee in 1890 will keep their Medals of Honor. According to him, this decision is “final” and “no longer up for debate.”

For those unfamiliar with the massacre of Wounded Knee:

On December 29, 1890. Chief Spotted Elk (Big Foot), led his band of Miniconjou Lakota, starving and exhausted after walking on foot from Canada to return to relatives living on the Pine Ridge Reservation. (After the battle of Little Big Horn in 1876 Sitting Bull led a large group of Lakota to Canada to avoid the killing squads funded by the US government.) But around 350 Lakota wanted to return home– they missed home, were hungry, tired, cold, and scared.

They had already surrendered. The 7th Cavalry had them encamped at Wounded Knee Creek, with Hotchkiss guns pointed down from the ridge. If you aren’t familiar with a Hotchkiss gun, look it up.

A deaf Lakota man, Black Coyote, hesitated to give up his rifle after the cavalry ordered all weapons to be confiscated. A shot went off in the struggle and the unspeakable horror began. Soldiers unleashed fire. Artillery from the Hotchkiss guns shredded tipis, horses and entire families. Survivors trying to escape were hunted down for hours throughout frozen ravines.

By the end, more than 300 Lakota were dead. Half were women and children. Some froze where they fell, days later, discovered under snow.

In response to this situation, 19 U.S. soldiers were awarded the Medal of Honor for their actions.

    Yay for democracy and civilization!

    • This fits right in with something that I think James agrees with. Namely the maintenance of the left-right paradigm, where administrations come and go, but the crucial over-arching mendacious agendas continue on. The agenda currently features the need to divide us even more sharply, left and right, to weaken our resistance and distract us from the really huge issues of war and technocratic tyranny.
This thing about the medals is part of the pattern of creating irritating, polarizing issues, that really are not necessary to deal with at this time. The current administration is playing its part in keeping everyone angry and confused, dramatically well.
Everyone, please stay sane as they, both sides, keep on dealing out lies and war.

  23. Yes, keep the show notes. I use them and like them. Sometimes even more than the original article.
Your impatience with the example you referred to is understandable, but unless you are really burned out, I recommend not generalizing it into something huge.

What would Babe Ruth be without his bat?

    • One more possible reason to keep doing show notes is the recent addition to your operation of an assistant.
You need to keep him hopping, right?.😁

  24. James, your use of show notes is a strong basis for your solid credibility. For those who will not/cannot learn, effem.

  25. I like show notes for citation purposes but also I like to skim or read the full article. I appreciate the show notes.

  26. Agorism is a good term for making people ask what you mean but its meaning is individual resistance rather than system change. The word anarchy is worth reclaiming as rule by rules rather than rulers–a catchy enough definition. I most often use small scale sovereignty or community sovereignty. That makes people scratch their heads long enough to ask what I mean.

  27. Yes please keep the show notes! Aside from the brilliancy of your work, one of the reasons I love it is that I can send it to other people knowing they will not have the ability to say that anything stated in them are false. Especially in this age of “misinformation” claims, the fact that I am able to say, and they are able to see, that every claim you make is directly referenced, with links! Goes a long way. Thanks for all you do James, and really enjoyed Reportage!!!
